Federation

3 Nov 09 - Federation Square, Melbourne, Victoria, Australie -

I have travelled for 7-8 months in Australia. Most places in This country cost $4-7 per hour for the internet.
In the Outback it is usually $7-10 per hour. Considering I can spend 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 31 days
per month on the internet for $60, it is shocking in Australia! This is only one example of the cost to travel
in Australia. I had planned to go to southeast Asia in April. But, my savings are dwindling too fast here. It is
more important for me to discover the world and how it works. So, I plan to leave in 3-4 weeks for southeast Asia. It
is okay. I have wanted to travel to Asia for longer than I can remember.

Le Marché (The Market)

1 Dec 09 - Queen Victoria Night Market, Melbourne, Australie - J'ai vu une danse d'habitant de Sumatra au Marché. C'était hypnotique.

. (I saw some Sumatran
dances - mesmerizing)
The sounds, smell of international foods, clothing and objects from various parts of the world -
This market is my second favorite in Australia. My favorite one is the Mendel Beach Sunset Market in
Darwin, Northern territory, Australia. They are similar but the one in Darwin is at the beach with the sun
setting and it is cozier/smaller. At the Queen Victoria Night Market, there were some Sumatran's presenting
some Sumatran dances. One of the dances was so compelling that the actors and actresses left the theatre of
my mind and my thoughts ceased. It is in these moments on my travels (now 7 months into this part of my travels)
that I see life can be more than my mind understands. Looking back on this experience, I realize that even
though I did not understand with my conscious mind, I nonetheless "understood". The effect is that my mind
became still. This experience reminds me again that there is so much more to this world than I understand.
People and animals truly find ways to survive and thrive.

On Se Pense... ( thinking)

La Direction Au Nord (the direction is north)

28 Octobre 09 – Perth, Australie – Je rencontre deux personnes à France – Ludi et Stephane. Ils ont une camionette. Alors mes plans ont changé. Je voyagerai nord avec les à Darwin. Il y a du vent au nord. Alors, je vais au nord.

( I met Ludi et Steph in Perth. They own a van. So, my plans have changed again. I will travel north with them to Darwin. I am learning to allow the winds to direct me. The unknown is far more exciting)

J'ai changé d'avis (Change of Plans)

24 Oct 09 – J'ai pris l'avion jusqu'à Perth, Australie. Mon plans precedents: New Lambton, Melbourne, Apollo Bay, Port Fairy, The Grampions, Esperance, Walpole, Coral Bay.

(I flew to Perth, Australia. Woolworths (supermarket) closed at 5pm. It’s 5:20pm. No food tonight. Welcome to Western Australia. I will leave Perth soon. I will travel to the Outback this week. There are few people and one can drive all day and not see anyone. I changed my plans. I was going to travel from my friend’s place in New Lambton, NSW, Australia south to Melbourne, Apollo Bay, Port Fairy, The Grampions, Esperance, Walpole, Coral Bay. The problem is that Coral Bay is heading into the northern half of Western Australia and wet season is coming soon. I realized I would have had to rush to do this plan and I felt anxious and stressed. Then, I stopped myself and realized I on vacation. So, I got on the computer and found a flight for the next day from Sydney to Perth for $228 total! And so I changed my plans. I am starting in Coral Bay area and moving as the wind takes me. I will do my plans in reverse)

Mon Ami Dave (my friend Dave)

23 Oct 09 - Mon favorite Australien. Merci, Dave! Sa maison est trés cool!

(My favorite Australien. He is very nice, trustworthy and generous. It's an honor to knoz him. He has let me keep some of my things at his house while I travel. Thanks, Dave!)

(This is what happens when you have service with Optus (portable telephone) - no signal! I didn't have a telephone signal on the Savannah Way - for 2 weeks! This telephone was attached to a tree a few hundred km from anybody. There are no cables or signal. LOL! I suggest that you avoid Optus if you visit Australia...)

Nimbin - Australie...La Ville du Hippie (The Town of the Hippie)

(Nimbin is an old hippie town. It's a laid-back place. But, it's strange. It smells like pot almost everywhere and the police are looking in the bushes! Perhaps, the police are....)

Fraser Island, Australie (Fraser Island, Australia)

Kate, 4x4, a accompli l'ile. Quelle chance!

(Fraser Island and the Savannah Way are my two favorite places in all of australia. 4x4 driving on Fraser is by far the most difficult I have been on in all of australia. The unsealed roads are savage!! Kate (my friend's 4x4) did well as usual. Up down. Up down. Up down..... Many people's 4x4 got stuck in the soft sand. Many inexperienced drivers on it as well. One person didnt want to lower the pressures in his tires to 16-20 psi because he was concerned about going over rocks and sticks... ooookkkkkaaaayyyyy,,, riiiggghhhttt. The first night we slept on the beach between the sandbank and the ocean..mistake. We woke up in the morning with the tide 3 meters from our 4x4. We quickly left. We got to Eli Creek 3.5 hours from low tide.. We were supposed to traverse it within 2 hours of low tide. Yikes. We crossed it but wow. At Lake MacKenzie we met up with Flamm again. How lucky! (he is the man we met in Deepwater National Park I talked about in another post). The sand here was comparable to Whitehaven Beach and this is an inland lake. It is silky soft sand and I took a nap on it. I was eating some noodles for lunch and a dingo walked within 1.5 meters of me. His eyes looked wild! Lake Yabby to the Beach was the most boggy area we went through. 6 4x4 got stuck in the deep soft sand.. My arms were so tired by the end of digging them out. 3 of us in 4x4 followed each other to the beach campsite to ensure all of us making it. The sun was setting quick).

Le Bear de Bundaberg (The Bear of Bundaberg) - Australia

(Bundaberg, Australia - the town of Bundaberg rum and Bundaberg ginger beer! Delicious! My friend took a photo of me in front of the Bundaberg Bear. both the Bear and me grinned from ear to ear)

Deepwater National Park

Wouaou!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(South of Town of 1770, we met Flamm (German/French) in Deepwater National Park. We had dinner with him near the beach and we talked about travels around the world. He has travelled for 5 years total in the past 12 years!!!!! Wow!)

(we went to the line of the Tropic of Capricon at Rockhampton, Australia. I stood on each side ot the Tropic line and hopped from one side to the other. The world is not so large to me now).

Plus des Whitsundays, Australie (More of the Whitsundays, Australia)

(Whitsundays, Australia - I could not swim in the water at the coral around Border Island because my new tattoo is supposed to kept dry for a little while longer. Erin, Reefjet tourboat person, took me on a dingy with a viewer I put into the water to see all the coral and fish. There were so many species of coral and colorful fish here. I liked the coral here over the Coral at the Great Barrier Reef off of Cairns because there were so many fragile species of coral at Border Island. I even got seasick!).

(Planton Island, Whitsundays, Australia - It was our island for 3 days because only one campsite for the island. The Island of Sarah, Simon, Nicole and I! My friend Simon and I made a raft called HMS Kate (his 4x4 truck is called Kate) out of drift wood and vines. Then, we "sailed" around part of Planton Island on it near the coral. I read my french novel while relaxing on a hamack made of vines. It's a rough life!)

Le Grand "I" pour le Centre d'information (The Great "I" (for information center"))

I thought the "I" were all government information centers. Not in Australia. Alot of em are private tourist booking agencies)

Bowen, Australie (Bowen, Australia)

(Goon is the drink of choice for most backpackers. It is very cheap box wine....very, very poor quality wine. But, heh, it usually costs $11-$14 for a 4-5 litre box of wine. Goon sacs are a regular sight at all backpackers. I suggest you drink something other than goon if you have the money. hehehe

Simon, Stefan and I stayed at the Asylum, an hostel in Cairns, Queensland, Australia. This hostel is one of the coolest I have stayed in. People hang out on the grounds. They play didgeridoos, swing poi, lounge on hammocks, drink goon, hang out at "The Lagoon" (a human-made pool near the beach). The Lagoon exists because there is no beach at Cairns!!! Just mud where a beach should be. The Asylum gives out free dinner tickets for The Woolshed. Peterpans gives out free dinner tickets for the Rhinobar. Soooo..I eat 2 free meals each night. It's a rough life. But, someone has to live it. I will pay the price and take one for the team by eating the 2 free dinners each night.

Grande Barrière de Corail (Great Barrier Reef)

(I snorkeled at the Great Barrier Reef. The Reef where I snorkeled at was only 1-1.5 metres below the surface of the ocean. There were many species of fish - many colors and shapes. They swam all all around me within cm of me. I swam to some giant sea clams that were as large as me. They were so colorful and they would open and close to catch food. I was moved to tears at times. My words come short of explaining how beautiful an experience it was).
